Areola reduction is a procedure done to decrease the area of the areola (the darker area surrounding the nipple). The surgeon usually makes small incisions on the areola to remove excess tissues and reshape the areola, and in some cases, the nipple as well. Areola reduction is also commonly done alongside nipple reduction, breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction procedures. Areola reduction is usually done on an outpatient basis.
An inverted nipple is a nipple that is not protruding, but is "pulled" inwards instead. There are different causes of inverted nipples, and can be treated by surgical correction to restore the nipple to a normalprotruding position. During the inverted nipple surgery, the surgeon makes small incisions around the nipple to release any tissue bands pulling the nipple inwards. Sutures are then placed in to maintain the nipple in the corrected position. Sometimes, tissue grafting may also be needed to be implanted at the base of the nipple. Inverted nipple surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis.
Nipple reduction is a procedure done to decrease the nipple size, or to reshape the nipple and its areola (the darker area surrounding the nipple). During the procedure, the surgeon make tiny incisions on the nipple itself to remove excess tissue from the nipple. Common procedures include reducing the length of the nipple or the width of the nipple, or both. Nipple reduction is also commonly done alongside breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction procedures. Nipple reduction is usually done on an outpatient basis.
